George rides again

I wasn’t going to enter the challenge over at Dottie’s world this week cos of the limitations of my injuries in card making but I did have one of Louly’s bonus coloured Georges and a card to make for one of the chaps at church who is heavily into motorbikes. Didn’t see where lace and/or ribbon was going to come in there!!!

However – having put the main bit of the card together and casting around for a sentiment I went for a piece of card from an old LMC kit and a lace stick on sentiment I got from Lakeland when they were still selling craft stuff.

Here’s the result:

Sponsored dare – Sparkle and Bling

Over at Daring Cardmakers this week’s challenge is Sparkle and Bling. There’s a fab prize on offer -

As it is a sponsored dare this week, we will choose a random winner who will win 2 download collections of their choice or the Dottie and George Christmas download. In addition to this fabulous prize, Karen who owns Charmed Cards and Crafts is going to put together a little something extra from her shop making it 2 prizes up for offer this week so it is going to be well worth taking us up on the dare to be in with a chance to win!

The download can be won by anyone worldwide, but sadly the extra prize can only be posted to within Europe as Karen doesn’t ship worldwide.

We think you should make your card just for us this time – so please, no combined challenges for our prize dare.

Here’s another one I made before my accident last week – just not published it before – hope that counts :-) I based it on the ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ programme and just wondered what Dottie was thinking as she beautified herself … this is the result:

Not much sparkle and bling there you might say – apart from the stars and the highlighting on the writing … but take a look inside!

Glitter courtesy of Papercraft Inspirations, purple mirror card from the Co-op, I’ve had the lady ages – can’t remember her provenance!, inside writing via Microsoft WORD, Retro paper on front of card along with a Dotty download!!!

Dottie Challenge

Dottie’s Wonderful World challenge this week is a music theme – Going for a song:

All you have to do along with using a Charmed download, is incorporate the words of a song or the title of a song into your card but you’re not allowed ‘happy birthday’ or ‘congratulations’ for your song, I know I said easy but that’s a step too far along the easy road!

It doesn’t take much to get me to burst into song (as many of my friends and family will testify!) and I had coloured this Dottie in while loitering waiting for my son at orchestra practice on Saturday. The title that I chose was always going to be pretty obvious!!!

and with flash

This uses Papermania paper (closest i could get to clouds!) and then tracing paper which I printed the words onto from MS WORD, overlaid with some scrap acetate from a magazine cover and then lashings of glitter glue!!!

Dottie disaster !

I bought a Reeves Watercolour set at Sainsbugs for £4.33 … couldn’t pass it by at that price!

Thought I’d have a go at using these to colour some George and Dottie images that I printed off a while back. I mixed a great flesh colour and set about painting ‘Shopping Dottie’ – disaster!!!

Brush was too wet for starters and then the ink from my printer ran :-( Dottie had a smudged nose, eyes and mouth and her chin had run onto her neck!

The more I tried to sort it by adding more watercolour to cover the smudges the worse it got! I tried giving Dottie some eyelashes and eyeshadow but that looked horrfic! Eventually I just put water all over her face and then blotted up as much paint as I could – that was when the surface of the paper started to come off!!!

Finally I sorted out the nose and gave her red lips and that seemed ok. I added some beads round her neck and that helped the chin a bit, so I added a matching bracelet! But the eyes! Looked like she’d been crying and her mascara had run :-( [Can't say i would have blamed her either!!!]

Finally – I added some sun glasses – bit wide over the bridge of her nise but did the trick!!!

Here’s the finished article! She looks like she’s got a bit of acne but otherwise I think she finally survived … and I’ve certainly learnt some new lessons!

And also …

The challenge at Dottie’s World this week is entitled AND ALSO

I would like you to make a card or something, which of course is using a download/s from Charmed Cards AND ALSO…..something which can be removed from it,such as a tag, bookmark, notelets

So … birthday coming up for one of the chaps at church who works for the Highways Agency – you know those black and yellow 4x4s that make you think they are the police until you get a bit closer!!!!!

I have been dying to do something with the policeman George from George at work and here was my chance … I just coloured him in the Highways Agency colours instead of police colours!

So … the ‘and also’ part is a removable bookmark for his bible (at least I hope the glue lives up to its promises and it IS removable!!!) while the whole card is Chris and his job!!! Look closely at the cones and you will see the words ‘Happy Birthday!’

Get well soon

Asked by OH to make a get well card for his boss … here’s the result

Good old Papermania card and paper for the backgrounds – plenty of dots to match Dottie’s bedding!

George has a haircut …

Hope Louise doesn’t mind but I gave George a bit of a haircut for a friend’s birthday card … He’s greatly into Macs so I gave him a Mac Mini using the George at Work downloads – but the problem is he doesn’t have much hair and George has loads so I gave him a shave …

Used my new Sakura white pen to highlight the computer and also to go over the ‘Happy Birthday’ on the DCWV paper backing. I offset the picture as it was the only way to let the words show!!!

115 days to Christmas challenge

Well – it was last Sunday when I strolled by the Dottie’s World challenge for this week.

……and what a treat we have in store for you this week with Lou’s fabulous announcement yesterday – everyone who enters this week’s challenge will receive a brand new Dottie image!!!

So to the challenge – simple really, just make something Christmassy – a card, tag, decoration; as long as you include one of the downloads (it doesn’t HAVE to be from the Christmas collection either as many of the other Charmed digital download images are so adaptable).

The other images are very adaptable as I don’t have the Christmas collection … I don’t have time to make many Christmas cards so mine will be bought ones except for a few.

Here’s Dottie, from the Fun Time Dottie Kit, carrying her offering of a Christmas pudding – instead of the parcel she normally carries! I paper pieced Dottie’s dress and then added her arms and shoulders, tucking in a Christmas pudding (that I had sized to fit) into the slit between her arms and her shoulders. Lots of glitter on Dottie’s dress, shoes and headband complete the Christmas look, along with some traditional colours on the layered card and a piece of Christmas pudding paper from my stash!

2½ challenges in one

Ok – I toddled over to Dottie’s World to see what the latest challenge was as I had just coloured two George images ready for my friend’s twins’ birthdays.

This week all you have to do is use one of the Charmed downloads BUT (there’s awlays a but isn’t there!) you have to combine it with one or more challenges from other challenge blogs! I think it’s great to combine challenges and I think it should be encouraged, so there you go, I’m encouraging you!

Right then … having been up at 3.30am I had had a prowl around blogland and spotted the new challenges but couldn’t think what on earth to combine it with! I also had to re-read the challenge blog conditions carefully cos at least one stipulated that it not be combined with any other challenges!!!

Eventually I came up with using sketch 11 from Sketch Saturday for both cards …

I followed the sketch adjusting the sizes to fit my card – I used papermania paper as the backing for the computer George and papermania blue card (which I stamped using the colorbox queues rain forest pigment inks I won recently from the first This Thursday challenge) using two different star stamps for the chef.

The ribbons were from my stash of oddments as was the corrugated card. The other two papers are from Dovecraft’s 6×6 designer paper pack for ‘ Birthday ‘.

Each card has two little terriers (from a Dovecraft punch) as a remembrance of their cairn terrier and this was what led to the ½ in the title above …

Cute Card Thursday this week has

Challenge 22
This week the theme is ‘The two of us’

We would like you to use two of something on your card, it could be 2 people, 2 animals or 1 of each, we love to see your own interpretation as always!

Now as the cards are for twins and they’ve got the two terriers on each then I thought I would cheekily enter both cards in their challenge too :-)

New job Dottie

Made a card for Jenny Hall, who is leaving CB to be Deputy Editor at an interiors magazine. Reluctant to go along the ‘Good Luck in your new job’ route as I don’t do luck (see previous post) so had the brainwave of using this Dottie image to create a different sort of new job card
