Let’s Make Cards issue 18

This arrived yesterday but I was so full of cold I couldn’t be bothered to open it. Today was a different story … here’s the results …

Two birthday cards for a woman … hubby took first one for his Mum’s birthday

Then I did hubby’s card … the “To my husband” is actually gold card but looks yellow in the picture :-(

Then a male card …used two pieces of corrugated card from issue 17 on this as well!

and finally – a friendship card – which I am going to enter in the Two Sketches For You challenge which asks you to use this sketch:

The only problem is I cannot decide what to use on the base of the green flowered paper yet :-( – still I’ve got a day to decide!!!

Dreadful decoupage! (Part 2)

Here’s the second card – the doves were nearly as difficult as the angels to push out  :-( until I got a bright light on the back of the die-cuts … weren’t fully cut along the wings – neither was the star – so I got out my craft knife and made some more cuts.

Decided to go for an aperture card – made my own nightmare with this!!! Decided to use the acetate from my Let’s Make Cards mag to cover the aperture and then stick the decoupage onto this then have some of the backing paper on the rear of the card to show through the apeture.

Fine – hunky dory – till I looked inside the card … there was a mess from the back of the acetate where it was stuck on, you could see the sticky pads through the acetate and the rear paper had gone on wonky!!! Managed to make an insert with matching apertures – went in a bit wonky but as my Mother’s favourite saying is ” a blind man’d be glad to see it ” she’d better not moan! :-) Then I cut an oval of backing paper and stuck that on the inside of the aperture to cover the view of the sticky pads.

Dreadful decoupage!

I don’t do a lot of decoupage as I find it too fiddly to cut out.

I wanted to do a couple of special cards for our parents for Christmas – I’m buying most of ours as I don’t have the time to make all the cards that I send out. I spied and bought a Dufex die-cut Christmas decoupage sheet at the Range for £1.99 in order to make two cards.  Here it is:

Well – it was a complete nightmare!!! The centre medallions came out ok but there were loads of little white ‘tags’ left where the die cut had been done :-(

The buildings were ok but the angels and stars :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0  words fail me! They didn’t come out cleanly and I broke two of the angels’ arms trying to remove the tiny silver piece in the crook of their elbows. The stars were so badly cut that they wouldn’t come out adn eventually the foil front came off where I was trying to get them out. Ended up using a pointed pokey tool which got them out but didn’t do them a lot of good. The angels’ haloes I never even attempted as they were even smaller than the stars. I also don’t posess any silicon glue but do wonder whtehr it would actually be feasible to use this in such tiny quantities as seemes to be required by these fiddly items.

I wonder if the designers have actually tried to make these kits up – interestingly the instructions didn’t actually feature this particular design in the pictures!!!!

I gave up on the angels – one layer apiece and no extra halo and none on the greeting bar at the base … here’s the first card – girding my loins for the other :-(

I’m gonna see if anyone has a Christmas challenge on at all and enter this in it if it fits the criteria cos it certainly was a challenge!!!!!! LOL! There is a Christmas challenge over on A Spoon Full of Sugar!
