I was the winner (drawn at random) of the This Thursday blog’s first ever challenge
What a strange week this is turning out to be …
I am going to enter this

for their second challenge – it’s full of beads, gems and sequins and (in my opinion) is absolutely beautiful so will definitely fit the challenge of Beaded Beauties.
This song (lyrics below) really sums up this week … funeral on Tuesday
When the tears fall by Tim Hughes [Hover over link to get pop-up window and play song]
I’VE HAD QUESTIONS, without answers
I’ve known sorrow, I have known pain
But there’s one thing, that I’ll cling to
You are faithful, Jesus You’re true
When hope is lost, I’ll call you Saviour
When pain surrounds, I’ll call you healer
When silence falls, You’ll be the song within my heart
In the lone hour of my sorrow
Through the darkest night of my soul
You surround me and sustain me
My defender, forevermore
I will praise you, I will praise you
When the tears fall, still I will sing to you
I will praise you, Jesus praise you
Through the suffering still I will sing

Got back into crafting today after the upsets of the week – was asked to make a sympathy card for a friend and she wanted a throne on it – very specific about colours etc – anyway – here is the finished throne – not showing the card as it’s a bit too personal

Made a card for one of the children at church who’s into Ben 10

and finally a card for the animal challenge over at Crafts Beautiful forum

Please ignore the square white bit on the photo – didn’t notice it until I uploaded it – it’s the one of the backings from the foam pads that I used under the waves to make them more 3d!!!
Not done a lot of crafting this week – burnout set in over the baptism cards and it has been J’s birthday and also his baptism so a lot to deal with. We also had some very bad news about one of the families due to come to the baptism – their 8 year old son had a severe anaphylactic reaction to something he ate and has died. His parents had to make the heartbreaking decision of turning off his life support after a brain scan showed that it was just the machines keeping him alive
I just cannot imagine how they are feeling
This is an entry for the challenge on This Thursday.
Now we mused for a while about what our 1st challenge should be, and as we are a fresh, new challenge blog, and the basic idea behind the challenges is to find fresh inspiration, products or techniques and look at different art and craft areas for fresh ideas, so we decided that our 1st challenge should be simply
FRESH. whether you use the word, the definition, fresh colours, fresh products, or fresh techniques. However the word Fresh inspires you, and whatever it inspires you to create we want to see it.
Well – this set me to thinking … and I had no ideas whatsoever!!!
Anyway – this afternoon I needed a card for our babysitter and had very little time to make one as it’s my son’s birthday and he had a friend coming to tea. I had a quick look through my box of made cards and none seemed right – as I was doing this I picked out loads that had been there for yonks and just not sold. Decided to update them and FRESHen them up – probably counts as altered art too!
Here are the before and after piccies
The first one is the one that gave me the whole idea and the colour is very FRESH too!!!!

The next few were from cards that I made with wallpaper border scraps

I re-used one myself as an Easter card ages ago and one sold but the other three remained obstinately unsold so … some doodling, some rub ons, some peel-offs and some stamps later …

One I made with paperweaving following a ‘how to’ in Let’s Make Cards – never sold – maybe the size or the fact that the weaving grew so large that the only card I had to fit it was black. Anyhow … a lot of glitter later

The following one was one of my earliest cards – green blank with three peel-offs stuck on contrasting card and then mounted on the green blank – thought it the height of sophistication at the time LOL! I moved one of the presents and added a diecut paper pieced present on a metal background, doodling dots on the ribbon of the present.

Final one was a coloured in peel-off which I also thought the height of sophistication at the time with a clean uncluttered look – added watercolours, distressing, and paper, sequin and bead embellishments …

So – there you have it – FRESH looks to old cards – Have to see how they sell now!!!
First – one for my friend’s daughter – I find it difficult to come up with a design when someone chooses the elements for a card. Sat and thought about this one for days …
Ended up making a trifold card (which I managed to crease incorrectly …) with spines (due to the incorrect creases!) and gave it a front and back … IYSWIM

and the rest … there are two more but they sold before I got around to photographing them

Wasn’t too painful

While I was there I noticed that she had a link to blog candy at A STAMPING & CHIRPING Corner. This lady (stampingcaz) has some amazing cards on her site – I feel inspired to get the stamps out that I bought on ebay recently and haven’t got around to using.
